Webinar ‘The Image of the Pork Sector: A Complementary View’
We close the cycle of webinars on the image of the pork sector with a very special debate where 2 representatives from animal advocacy associations gave us their perspective on our sector.
Our image is tied to the care and protection of animals and the environment, which is why it is necessary to listen to and consider people with different sensitivities.
In this way, we can understand how to improve the image that the public has of the sector.
The Experts
We were joined by:
- María Moreno García-Doncel (Specialist in animals used for consumption at the FAADA Foundation).
- Alberto Díez (Director of ANDA).
- Miguel Ángel Higuera (Director of Anprogapor) representing our sector.
María and Alberto told us about their view of the Spanish pork sector and their associations’ relationships with it.
What are our weak points? High densities, gestation and farrowing crates for mothers, tail docking…
From their contributions, we can gain valuable suggestions for improving the sector’s image.
Is there any possibility of joint work between livestock sectors and organizations that protect animal rights? Do the actions that some abolitionist animal rights organizations take beyond legality benefit or harm other organizations? What are the future aspects coming from Europe regarding the breeding of production animals?
These and many more questions were answered in this interesting debate. It is essential to understand how we are seen from outside and in what areas we can improve.
