Webinar ‘ASF in 2020: Preparing to Combat It’
What is happening in Germany?
In recent weeks, several cases of ASF (African Swine Fever) have been confirmed in Germany, the leading pork exporter in Europe.
Immediately, countries such as China, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, South Korea, and Argentina announced bans on the importation of pork from this country.
This has dealt a severe blow to the German pork sector, but it undoubtedly affects us all. We are facing a problem of great magnitude that we must approach with serenity, taking into account economic and health perspectives.
European Scenario
In our webinar, we discussed the possible scenarios that could arise after learning the news:
- Regionalization or zoning by the European Commission
- Market price drops
- Vaccines against ASF
- What can we do to address the problem of wild boar overpopulation?
- Measures to apply on farms to prevent ASF
The Experts
To shed light on this unprecedented scenario, our CEO Miguel Chico was joined by 2 of the leading experts on the topic:
- José Manuel Sánchez-Vizcaíno – Professor of Animal Health at UCM, director of the OIE reference laboratory for ASF, and coordinator of the Vacdiva project.
- Miguel Ángel Higuera – Director of Anprogapor as moderator.
